Author royalties – Traditional publishing vs Digital publishing

There are different notions held by different authors residing worldwide writing away their books to glory. However, what the general public is quite unaware of is the pains an author takes to get the book published once written completely. Yes, exactly it is! Traditional publishing had held its side of the bargain since many years until the digital revolution backed it up with its modern technology and boosted tools for the same. Hence, now there are two competitors in the market in terms of publishing categories.

Traditional publishing is one that has had the author royalties since quite a definite time period. An author could hire a book cover designer, a publisher and a matter of fact n editor too. However what was the most important and finalized action was the significant distribution of books for generating her revenues for the same. Unfortunately traditional publishers also known as the legacy publishers consumed 85 percent of all the revenues generated by the author with the inclusion of the revenue generated through editing, and publishing accordingly. This in turn, left very little for the author himself. Of course, we all have witnessed the significant revolution J.K. Rowling had through her massive success in selling the books on Harry Potter series., but not all have that silver streak when it comes to publishing books on a massive scale. Here is where, digital publishing comes into action.

With the unleashing of digital publishing by the giants of technological market, the author can now opt for the corresponding pack and services directed towards digital distribution tasks accordingly. In fact, with the advent of Amazon kindle, there has been quite a revolution in the author royalties, where now instead of paying more than nearly three fourths of her revenue, an author can opt for particular services at an affordable cost. This has also facilitated the advent of e-books at large. It is quite amazing to notice that the author no longer has to squander the money for getting the necessary distribution alike. Statistics suggest that instead of the huge 85 percent, the author can now choose to pay around 35- 36 percent of the revenues earned through the successful services of digital publishers in the corresponding market. This no doubt is quite bitter news for the traditional publishers but digital revolution has had its impacts one way or the other. It is best to embrace it for deriving maximum benefits in the long run.
